Example: History help!?

In the early 1960s Newton Minow, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and later, chairman of the board of PBS, once described television as a “vast wasteland.” He also said, “When television is good, nothing is better. When it's bad, nothing is worse.”
Reflect on this idea as you describe the changes television brought to American life and culture during the 1950s. Explain how television influenced American society and what the impact of television would be over time.

01. TV did nothing but reflect what people were concerned with, what were the main global concerns of the day, peoples fears & dreams for the future.
Actor William Talman did a national service, after contracting lung cancer, in making public service commercials warning the public about the deadly effects of cigarette smoking.

02. Time of the cold war (Espionage TV/movie shows like, 007, The Avengers, Wild, Wild West, The Saint to name a few).

03. The Russians & the USA are working on space projects to explore the unknown, which could have bee an exciting, or fearful, endeavor to the masses (Twilight Zone, Star Trek, Lost in Space, One Step Beyond, The Outer Limits, etc.)

04. In the 1950s, drive-ins were very popular. There would usually be three movies playing within 20 minutes of each other — enough time to go to the concession stand & back to your date, or friends. 'B' horror flick were very popular & terrifying (Scared it might get you movies). Urban legends were popular forms of fooling, or entertaining in a scary way, because the stories played upon the deepest fears of people. Combine them with space & Science Fiction writing, which was gaining in popularity in the late 1940s (i.e. Philip K. Dick, etc.). Urban legends were brought to life by 'B' horror flicks such as (The Blob, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Them, The Tingler, The Hand, The Fly, The Wasp Woman, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The War of the Worlds, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher, Village of the Damned, etc. just too many to name).

05. Toward the late 1950s in to the 1960s & 70s, outer space, insect & creature fears got trumped by psychological thrillers that had psychopathic characters in them, who actions could actually happen in reality. After Hitchcock's shower scene in Psycho, showers were not the same for those who saw it then. Homicidal, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane, The Haunting, House on Haunted Hill, Strait Jacket, Rosemary's Baby, The Haunting of Julia, etc. TV & movies dealing with insanity, frightening metaphors & cliches meant to provoke the viewer gradually began to show the violence of the crimes in the 1970s. Slash movies (Halloween, Friday the 13th, etc.) evolved.

06. On the family side, in the 1950s we saw TV & movies telling us how to live our lives—specifically family life (Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, The Danny Thomas Show, etc.) By the 1960s, we not only had a single teen, like Gidget, ward of her uncle, but other odd family arrangements like The Patty Duke Show, in which she had an identical cousin that came to live with her. Then the magical families like Bewitched & I Dream of Jeannie. Disney has always been in the picture the whole way, telling us that everyone lives happily ever after. Now isn't that nice?

07. Comedy was very important. It was very popular programming on 1940s radio. All the hard work of the day could be set aside, by the 1950s, to watch hysterically funny comedians such as Sid Ceasar & Imogene Coca, Ernie Kovacs, Desi & Lucy, Amos 'n Andy, Steve Martin, Red Skelton, The Honeymooners, etc.

08. By the 1960s, comedy was evolving into several formats, the conservative guest shows like The Tonight Show (Jack Paar, Johnnie Carson, etc.) The Merv Griffin Show, etc. The other type was the new, crazy, off the wall comedy shows like Laugh-In, The Smothers Brothers, Benny Hill, The Carol Burnett Show, The Sonny & Cher Show, etc.

09. So much more, but not the time or space. Hope this helps.

Good Luck & Best of TV!

Example: How much control do words have? Can you trust words without Actions to support them?

~

the words ran together

pelting her back
a driven rain
enveloped her in
a prismatic
moment
They stroked her ego
a blossom was formed
a tortuous delicate satiable flavor
of something deliciously warm

then words became short
they felt rather terse
they unsettled things she had
meant to rehearse
In a burst they came flooding
Like some raging tsunami
Broke down her defenses
Leaving her open
To vultures and dinosaurs
Loose in her prison

On the back of a dragon
Took flight …she could run
And she ran to his arms
As if shot from a gun

Slipped off of his back
Blew a kiss
as he spread his wings
Breathed fire and hissed
Disappeared in a mist of confusion

She looked up and saw them
Her heart beat went cold
All the words gathered round her
Suddently bold, they accused her
And railed at her making her shake
Caused her to run, once more

She would run and hide from
This thing which threatened
to take her
No longer a dream
it seethed
And it crawled
underneath her pale skin,
and
the words would again
Run wrapping around her
Like
Yesterday’s sorrow they ran
And
they smeared on the page
That was laid loosely there
Beckoning her from the desk

The words were responsible,
They made this mess

Now she sits in a cubicle
Tries to confess, the words
Agitated and made her undress
The rest
Unrelated
The words reveled, drank
had won once again
With this well thought out prank
while a girl in a strait jacket
Was wheeled out
And away

Example: What Does My Dream Mean?

Last night I had the scariest dream in my life. Seriously, I was crying and screaming in my sleep.

Okay, so this is what it was:

I was at my elementary school (I'm not in elementary school anymore, I was just there for some reason) with my entire grade. On top of a hill at the elementary school there is a big wooden castle that is like a playground and a maze. It's really there.

Anyway, I was playing this hide-and-seek game where you can move around, and whoever the seeker is has to try to find you. If they see you, you're the seeker.

Okay, so I was running around, and the boy I was playing it with was losing pretty badly. He went down the slide and I just decided that I would let him see me so I would become the seeker.

I popped out at him and said "Boo!" but he just ignored me. He walked strait to the baseball diamond, as if he hadn't heard me at all. Other kids were lounging around, talking and throwing frisbees. I kept my eyes on him as I went to a good friend of mine, who was sitting on a ledge. As I stood beside her, I saw him pull something out of his jacket pocket. It was slender, black, and shiny. It was a gun.

"Oh, my God, he's got a gun!" I whisper-screamed to my friend, not wanted to draw attention. A lump gathered in my throat, and hot tears gathered in my eyes. I desperately wanted to run, but I had to stay. I had to round up the others!

"No, I don't think so." She said, not really paying attention.

"Look!" I said, pointing to him. She shook her head again.

Suddenly, he pulled the trigger, and a bullet shot through the air. It landed with a bang, luckily not hitting anyone, but it set on a small fire in the field. The fire grew larger and larger. Students were running around, tears streaming down their faces, hiding from him and dodging the fire at the same time.

"Do you see? We have to run!" I shouted at her, my voice ragged.

She didn't respond. I saw her staring at the boy with the gun. There was a figure frozen with fear in front of him. The figure was my other best friend.

"NO!" I screamed. He pulled the trigger and I watched as my friend fell to the ground. He stood over her, a satisfied smirk glued on his face.

Suddenly, my best friend jumped up and started running towards us at lightning speed. He had missed her! She had just faked it to buy some time!

He shot the gun several times, missing each time. He set the wooden playground on fire. He shot countless times, and more and more children went down. He was killing us off one by one!

We screamed as he chased us, shooting his gun randomly.

Then I woke up.

This dream was terrible. The worst thing was that the crazy killer was the boy who I like. "Like" like.

What does this frightening dream mean?

Example: What does these dreams mean?

1. I had a dream I was walking about but no one was out the sky was gray and the world was breaking away I was all alone

2. This dream keeps comming each time I close my eyes

There is a man who watches every movement and each choice I made he stand above my bed or following me wherever I go he judges everything I do I know who he is but I darnt say his name he hides his face with a mask and ties me to the death bed he smiles down at me and says "this won't hurt much" he injects a needle in my arm and pluckd my teeth he locked me in a room and starved us till we lost our humanity we started killing and eating each other limbs where all over the room he put me in a strait jacket and pushed me around in a chair

My brother helped me excape who died trying to save me

2:45 am I revive a message of an unknown number saying "where is ur god now" I return to my bed where he sits there is no excape no one hears my call for help no one hears my cry I scream for someone to see me but they all laugh at my grave

Example: Weird dream, what does this mean?!?

I had this dream that was just.. Weird, in a word.
I went into labor, (not knowing there was a baby) I was in the hospital alone, with one doctor. She delivered my child, and have him to me, wrapped in a blanket. No one in my family was there, it was just me. So when they let me leave the hospital with my baby, I took him to my boyfriend, still wrapped in the blanket in my arms. I remember speaking to the baby "daddy will name you" but when I got to his house and handed the blanket to him, it was empty and he asked what kind of sick joke it was, saying I was never pregnant. I started going hysterical screaming "WHERES MY BABY?!" And he called the cops and we went to the hospital, where the cops showed up and the doctors said I was never there. I was still screaming and losing my mind until they dragged me into a padded room and put me in a strait jacket, and they were saying that I was schizophrenic..

Yeah.. So what the hell?!

Example: Interpret my dream? if you can please?

1. I was at my best friend's old house. We went on a walk to McDonalds. At the end of her street there's a large building (in real life she told me that its a place for the mentally ill, she called it a "crazy house"). We walk up to it and go in ( I can't walk in this dream, I can only skip but she walks). Inside there's people in white uniforms and strait jackets walking toward us like zombies. I look at her, grab her arm and say let's get out of here, we shouldn't be here. We dash out of the place, her running, me skipping. We didn't make it to our destination.

2. I'm asleep in bed (in real life there are lots of noises, 2 alarms going off and a movie on loudly outside of my room). I roll out of bed (literally) and land on the floor. I hop up and start walking into the room living room then the kitchen, then my mothers room where I stop. I don't remember the rest I just remember that I'm walking strange. My body was flimsy like paper, I flapped back and forth and side to side.

Example: Why do I keep having the same dream?

I've had the same dream nearly every night for the past 6 months. I've had it so many times, but it's never any less scary.
There is this mad cannibal chasing me around his house, there is peeling light green paint on the walls and the house is by a lake and has a forest by it. It's only one room, with a burned out fireplace that looks unused for quite a while. There's no furniture, nothing except for piles of tins of human flesh with red labels. After a while of running around, I manage to climb over the tins of flesh and get out the door.
The door leads into a blackness and I somehow end up falling down a long spiral staircase for what seems an eternity. I have a watch that says its the 3rd of April 2021 and its 15:08. At the end of the staircase, I break my neck and become paralyzed. I can't move at all so I feel like I can't breathe and am petrified. The cannibal finds me and takes me into a lab where he does testing and experimenting on the upper half of my body whilst breaking pieces off of my lower body each night. Eventually he stabs me in the chest and I wake up.
I always wake up with a forehead full of sweat and gasping. Sometimes I have night terrors, but only at the part where I am paralyzed where I roll off the bed and loll around like I'm in a strait jacket. I have had sleep deprivation lately so it might be due to that, but I'm not completely sure.

I've had this dream since I was around 6 or 7 and it's the only dream I've ever had. What does it mean? Should I consult a doctor or something?

Example: What did you really learn through many years of schooling?

A. Confusion (There is no meaning.)
B. Hierarchical Position (Envy those above, despise those below)
C. Dependency ('Success' is measured by the opinion of others and only 'experts' know the truth)
D. Obedience (Do as others instruct in order to progress)
E. Conformity
F. All of the above
